WEEKEND GETAWAY IN BOSTON
PHOTOGRAPHY BY CRAIG MACKAY
Boston is one of my favorite cities, and after our mini getaway last weekend, Craig and I were left asking ourselves why we don’t visit more often. We had an amazing two night stay at the Revere Hotel (hotel lobby picture above). The hotel is steps from Boston Common and couldn’t have been more conveniently located. We walked almost everywhere (we took a cab to Cambridge) but we walked back and it was beautiful.
It wouldn’t be a weekend getaway without room service. We had the most amazing breakfasts both mornings. Craig had pancakes and then waffles the next day (he always has to have syrup) and I had the eggs benedict and then scrambled eggs. And can we talk about this fruit plate? Seriously the best thing ever!
The view from our hotel room was so beautiful, Craig got up every morning to capture the sunrise.
I can never resist a cozy hotel robe. Coffee in bed was such a treat.
The hotel was easy walking distance to the Boston Public Garden. Our first morning the weather was perfect. The trees were bright red, orange and yellow, we walked around a few times just to make sure we didn’t miss anything.
The first day we walked the City and peaked into a few cute shops. We met my best friend living in Boston at her office and went to dinner at DeLux Cafe in Back Bay. You wouldn’t even notice it if you walked by but the food was amazing! Highly recommend for dinner or drinks. For outfit details see my post here.
On our second day, we ventured to one of my favorite neighborhoods, Beacon Hill (also walking distance to the hotel), to explore and grab lunch. We ate at Tatte Bakery and it did not disappoint.
We had the fresh mozzarella sandwich and the green and nutty salad. Needless to say, there wasn’t anything left over! And they had the yummiest lattes and desserts. I got the most delicious fruit tart.
There were so many quaint side streets in Beacon Hill. Each one was prettier than the next.
We also made it over the Cambridge and walked around Harvard. Such a beautiful campus and the town itself is also really pretty to walk around and explore. We had dinner at Lolita in Back Bay, we ate there last year so we had to go back. The food is amazing but it is CRAZY there on the weekend. We didn’t have a reservation and the wait was over an hour and a half so we ate at the bar which was great. But if you want to try it I highly suggest calling far in advance.
When we got back to our hotel room there was beer, bubbly and snacks waiting for us.
We had amazing sunsets both nights from our room. Craig couldn’t stop taking pictures. We are already planning our next trip back to Boston and we will definitely be staying at the Revere again. The staff was incredible, our room was cozy and quiet and the location was perfect for exploring the City by foot.

I am a Bostonian, and live right off Boston Common. I’m going to have to try a couple of the spots you’ve featured in this post (Tatte is one of my top favs!)
Hi! Great post! LOVE Boston! Need to visit again soon; last time was many years ago when I was still a teen.
Do you mind if I ask what kind of camera + lens you use? I just bought a Nikon and still learning what kind of lens to use when and I want to do some city shots like yours.
Thank you!
