The Great 8: January

This series is really starting to grow on me. There’s just so many things I want to share with you guys, things I’ve read, watched, skincare products I’ve tried, clothing I can’t stop wearing, but there’s only so many hours in a day. Inevitably I don’t always post about everything or maybe I did share it but you missed it. So this is my way of sharing the best of the best from the last month all in one place. And just a little side note, whether you’re single, dating, married, divorced, long-term committed relationship, I hope you take the time today to tell the people that matter most you love them, and that includes yourself. Sending love and hugs to all of you. Happy Valentine’s Day.

One

Dr. Hauschka Translucent Bronzing Tint

I got this stuff to try for my trip to Florida because I wanted something that would help make my tinted moisturizer match my spray tanned skin. It’s super subtle but works so well, and while it’s kinda pricey a little goes a long way so I anticipate having this for a while. Instead of having to buy multiple shades of tinted moisturizer or foundation, when your skin is tan, this can be mixed with whatever shade you use most often. It’s also all natural, paraben and cruelty-free.

Jess Ann Kirby spent time in January on Pinterest, gathering inspiration for her Vermont fixer upper.

Two

Farmhouse Fixer Upper

As most of you know by now we are looking for another fixer upper in Vermont. We went and viewed a bunch of houses a few weeks ago and are going back up next week to look at one of them a second time (our favorite from the beginning). Craig and I have been on a full on Pinterest spree and are just bursting with ideas. You can follow our Pinterest board here. The house we love has a lot of character and charm but it’s also in ROUGH shape so we’re cautiously optimistic right now.

Three

The Dropout

Admittedly I didn’t know a ton about this story so if you’ve been following it, there may not be a lot of new information in this podcast, but if you haven’t this is a great listen. It’s the story of Elizabeth Holmes, the world’s youngest self-made billionaire and her company Theranos. She now faces criminal charges and up to 20 years in jail for putting millions of patients at risk with her technology that she claimed was going to revolutionize healthcare, it fell far short of that.

Jess Ann Kirby recommends The Dropout podcast as one of her January favorites.

Jess Ann Kirby shares her favorite things in January, including Girlfriend Collective leggings.

Four

Girlfriend Collective Leggings

Super flattering and made from recycled plastic bottles these leggings are a huge win in my book. They also come in SO MANY good colors. I have the 23 3/4 inseam and I love how thick they are without feeling restrictive or too tight.

Five

Herbivore Botanicals Salt Spray

In my never ending quest for the best salt spray I think I’ve found a new favorite in this one. I brought it with me to Florida and loved it’s subtle scent and all natural ingredients. It’s not drying and gives hair a subtle beachy texture that can typically only be achieved by a swim in the ocean. If you want to try a smaller size it’s available in 2 oz here.

Jess Ann Kirby shares her favorite things in January, including the Herbivore Sea Mist hair spray.

Six

Heart Talk by Chloe Wade

Jess included this in her post of books she plans to read this year and I decided to order it. I am so glad I did. If you love Milk & Honey you will definitely enjoy Heart Talk. Positive, uplifting, and inspirational it’s a page turner but a book you can easily pick up and start anywhere. Buy a copy for yourself and get a few extras to give as gifts, it’s a good one.

Heart Talk by Cleo Wade is one of the top books we're reading in 2019 to better our lives and self improve

Jess Ann Kirby shares her favorite things in January, including the RMS Beauty probiotic.

Seven

RMS Beauty Probiotic + Prebiotic

This right here is my number one holy grail skincare product. Yes you read that right. I notice an almost immediate difference in my skin when I stop taking these, so now I must have backup bottles at all times. Gut health plays a major factor in your hair, skin and nail health, and there’s a whole lot of good stuff packed into one little pill. The best thing about them is they don’t have to be refrigerated so are perfect for travel.

Eight

Capsule Wardrobe

Ok so technically I launched my Capsule Wardrobe this month but I’ve been for the most part sticking to that list since I cleaned out my closet in January. Most of what I packed for Florida was part of the capsule and it made packing and getting dressed so much easier. I’ve also linked this outfit here. P.S. Wearing that skin tint and salt spray from above in this photo.

I swear by the Dr. Hauschka Tint–I started using it as a way to warm up my foundation for the summer months, but then when I switched to a natural foundation (Gressa) that I LOVE but the color is slightly off for me, I started using it every day to perfectly match my skin tone. I just re-upped yesterday because I too am going to Florida and really need to warm up my New England winter skin.

Do you take the probiotics after every meal as directed or just once a day? Really interested in these!

I just take it once a day. My primary care doctor said to switch it up every few months because otherwise your body/gut will become too accustomed to that specific probiotic so I switch between the rms and the Beauty Chef ones.
