Occasionally, I do in fact, get dressed up. It may be rare, but it happens. As much as I love being casual most of the time, I also really enjoy throwing on a dress and heels, especially in the summer. It’s that time of year for lots of celebrations and the inevitable question of what to wear. I typically stick to two things, a maxi dress or a jumpsuit. Of course it depends on the occasion but what I love about both is they work for most gatherings and dress codes. Today I’m bringing you two summer wedding and party outfits (and some similar styles at different price points). Craig and I have four weddings on the calendar right now so I have plenty of reasons to get dressed up this summer.

The Maxi Dress

Anytime I get a message from someone asking what they should wear to a wedding or fancier event, I almost always reply with a maxi dress. It’s my favorite way to be fancy but comfortable which let’s be real is always my number one priority. Particularly for summer when it’s hot, a maxi dress is light and breezy, flattering and makes you feel put together. This floral maxi dress from Shoshanna is what dreams are made of and when I shared it on Instagram last week one of you had just purchased it for a summer wedding and ended up buying the Anthro shoes I suggested (they’re so comfy).

The Jumpsuit

A jumpsuit with pockets is always going to be a winning combination in my book. This jumpsuit from Anthropologie is so comfortable and perfect for a hot summer day because it’s so light and breezy. I love how the wide legs make it look like a dress and the tie at the waist is a nice detail. Also how fun is this straw tote? A bit of a statement piece so I kept my other accessories simple.

Like both but prefer the Maxi and what a gorgeous dress! I wish I could wear them, but, and don’t laugh, my cats freak out when I wear maxis. So, I don’t wear them. Same with a sweater coat with fringe. Go figure.

I’m with on loving dresses and being super casual – I used to say I wanted a job where I could wear nothing but pjs and ball gowns, haha. I’ve since gotten very on board with casual sundresses but I still love dressing up. Those floral jumpsuits are lovely, the combo of the print and pants is so unexpected! xAllie

Very nice indeed. Miss Newport very much. Lived there for 7 years.
A suggestion. I just read your guide which I like. I went back to read a previous post–and was disappointed that it’s focus and appeal was only women. While I’m not a young man, nevertheless I would like to see some content for us gentlemen.

Maybe in another of your posts. We like to dress up, too. Thanks much.
