Storage Ideas When You Don’t Have Closet Space

Jess Ann Kirby shares her tips for storage ideas using the Raymour & Flanigan dresser
As Craig and I get closer to finishing some of the last rooms in the house we were met with a bit of a challenge, lack of closet space. Our house is pretty small, which is fine, I like it that way (easier to keep clean, haha) but we only have two closets on our entire first floor. One closet in our bedroom, where we have all our clothes, and one small closet in my office, where I have more of my clothes. It leaves no storage space for our towels and linens or any of my extra skincare/beauty products and accessories. We set out to find pieces that maximized storage without taking up too much space. Scroll down to see what we chose from Raymour & Flanigan (where we also found all of our patio furniture).

Office Space

The corner of my office, opposite my desk, was the perfect amount of space to fit the Somserset Chifforobe. It has tons of drawer space to fit all of my extra make-up, skincare, and hair products. On the left hand side I store all of my extra products and hair tools. On the right, there’s shelving and additional drawers for my bags, clutches, accessories and winter scarves and hats. I love having them all organized and easily accessible. It’s also really customizable and the shelves are removable on the right side if you wanted to use the rod for hanging bigger items like shirts, sweaters, etc. I love using it for my neck scarves and it still gives me room for all my sunglasses and watches.

Hidden Bedroom Storage

I knew for our bedroom I wanted a bed frame with storage because it’s the perfect place for sheets and towels (we have no linen closet or space in the bathroom). When we went to the store to pick everything out I had my mind set on a bed frame I saw online and the sales manager who helped us look up the details to make sure it would work for our room. I’m SO glad she did, because the one I wanted didn’t work for our room (the drawers were on the end of the bed instead of on the sides) and it didn’t have as much space as the one we ended up with. I love the one we picked, the Pilot Adjustable Storage Bed, because it has a TON of space on both sides of the bed. The size is also adjustable which is nice so if we ever decided to use it for a different mattress we could make it smaller. We also ended up getting a new mattress at Raymour & Flanigan while we were shopping for the platform bed. We weren’t planning on it, but we started testing out mattresses and basically couldn’t leave the store without the Serta iComfort Memory Foam Mattress. As you can see, everyone in the house loves it, including Nora and Fuji. It’s super comfortable, not too soft and not too firm, and regulates temperature really well so it doesn’t get too hot (even with 4 or 5  of us in the bed). The minimal design of the bed works really well with the rest of our bedroom design (full room reveal coming soon). If you’re looking for something sleek that has a ton of storage, look no further! This would be great a great bed for an apartment or small space, and it’s a REALLY reasonable price point at under $700. I looked at a ton of platform storage beds and this one was definitely the best price for the quality and function. Excited to share our full bedroom in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

I have so much stuff under the beds in my house too. My couch is from Raymour and Flanigan and I love it. It’s an L-shaped grey couch that looks like a West Elm piece, it’s so pretty and cozy. I also almost bought a dining room table there, they also have some great big mirrors, like huge mirrors. Thanks for sharing these tips!

  2. This is so smart. My new apartment is pretty big but had one tiny closet which obviously just wouldn’t do the job. I bought an IKEA glass door cabinet for all my shoes + bags, and sectioned off a section of the living room with fabric (and 3 garment racks behind it!!) as a makeshift closet!

  5. We recently moved to a new place that’s only 700 square feet, so this is super helpful! We definitely need a bed frame like this for the extra storage. Was it difficult to put together, and is it super heavy? (We rent, so anything that’s extremely heavy wouldn’t work since we move every couple of years.)

    Thanks!

I should have mentioned in my post, they’re delivery is amazing! They bring it in and set it up for you. It’s not hard to assemble or move though because we had to do that to paint and we did it ourselves no problem.
