Sézane Shopping Guide
I first discovered the French brand Sézane a few years ago through the recommendation of a friend. She said the French brand “was totally my style” and I had to try it out. I immediately fell in love with the brand. It was founded by Morgane Sézalory back in 2013 in Paris and has come to be a popular fashion brand with high-quality pieces that are well tailored and made to last. Sézane is now officially B Corp certified. Over the last several years they’ve focused on production methods, raw materials and working conditions, as well as their environmental footprint. They’ve outlined their sustainability commitments on their website.
One of the things I love about Sézane is their classic designs. I’ve had Sézane sweaters, coats and blazers in my wardrobe for years. Not only is the quality impeccable but the styles are timeless. I often get asked about sizing when shopping for Sézane and since it’s important to know when shopping for clothes at Sézane I’m sharing more about that today. French sizing can be different from American and European sizing but I’m breaking all of it down today. Whether you’re a long time Sézane fan or a new shopper, today’s post is your ultimate guide to making your Sézane shopping experience easy and fun.
Sézane Shopping Guide
Morgane Sézalory founded Sézane back in 2013. Born in Paris, Sézane uses the expertise of the best French ateliers, to create high-quality pieces, made to last. They release seasonal collections four times a year and also have some of their essentials, best-selling pieces that are part of their core Parisian uniform. Classics like the Heritage Bag, Tomboy shirt, Conrad Tee, Gatsby Mariniére, Betty Cardigan, and Michele Jacket are just a few of the gorgeous pieces you’ll have in your wardrobe for years to come. Today I’m going to break down everything from sizing to shipping so read on for your ultimate shopping guide to Sézane.
In fact, Sézane sweaters are probably my favorite thing from their collection. They come in a variety of styles, fits, and fabrics and they are great quality for the price. The fit varies by style and I highly recommend reading their sizing description on the product pages which will give you an idea of what size to choose. Some of their sweaters run large and some are more true to size. If you get itchy from wool/alpaca they have some great options in cotton, the Leontine is one of my favorites (I sized up). I love the Betty Cardigan which is like a sweater and a jacket. The Achille Cardigan is one of my favorite cozy styles for winter.
Sézane Coats and Jackets
Whether you’re looking for a classic trench, blazer or pea coat Sézane has a great selection of coats and jackets. One of my personal favorites is the Michele Jacket in navy (pictured above). It’s a double breasted style featuring gold buttons and made with a recycled polyester and wool blend. The Arthur Parka is a really chic alternative to a trench coat made with 100% organic cotton. It runs large. The Johnson Coat in camel is a gorgeous classic wool coat and the James coat is a chic shawl collar double breasted coat for fall and winter. The Will Jacket is one of their most well known and popular styles. It’s 100% organic cotton oversized jacket with wide front pockets.
Sézane has a gorgeous collection of dresses from fun minis to floral maxis. They’ve incorporated a lot of recycled and sustainable materials into their dress collection including organic cotton, ECOVERO™ LENZING™ (fully traceable viscose), and merino wool. I occassionally find that their dresses run large and usually always size down. Their inseams tend to run on the longer side as well.
Sézane Denim and Pants
Sézane did a big overhaul of their denim a few years ago making them with organic cotton. Some styles contain a small percentage of recycled polyester and spandex. A few styles like the Brut Sexy and Serge Trousers are made with 100% organic cotton so they are a no stretch denim. They feel snug at first but will give and break in with wear. I find their denim to fit mostly true to size.
Sézane has great trousers and a lot of really chic options, especially if you work in an office environment. Their Clara Trousers (seen below) are one of my favorite styles. It’s a slim/straight leg pant with a mid rise and ankle length. The Loulou Trousers are another great style with a high waist and wide leg.
Sézane has so many gorgeous blouses and they’re easy to spot because of their feminine and romantic details. Their essentials like the Tomboy shirt and Max shirt are incredibly chic options for a classic button down. I really love how many of their blouses are made in organic cotton or silk. The Palma top is a really gorgeous silk cami, great for layering under a sweater or blazer.
Sézane Tees and Marinieres
You’ve probably heard me talk about the Sézane Conrad Tee before because it’s my absolute favorite basic white tee. It’s made in 100% organic cotton and it’s such great quality. I’ve washed mine way too many times to count and it still looks just as good as the day I got it. They also offer free embroidery on the Conrad and several other styles. If you’re looking for a great layering thank the Juan style is stretchy, comfortable and chic with a square neckline.
Sézane bags are vegetable tanned leather made in Italy. I got my Heritage Victor Bag many years ago and still use it often, especially for travel or going out at night. You can now get it with complimentary monogramming! Over the summer I got the Sézane Paloma Basket which is a straw tote with leather handles and I get so many compliments. It’s gorgeous and chic and I use it as my everyday bag.
Sézane Shoes and Boots
When I first discovered Sézane several years ago they didn’t even make shoes (or at least I don’t remember them). Now they have a selection of boots, loafers, heels and sneakers. Most of their shoes do not come in half sizes so they recommend sizing up to the next full size.
Sézane Sizing Guide
Sizing on the Sézane website varies with different categories. For their tees and mariniéres they use XS-XXL and I find that sizing to be true to size. They also use American sizing (2-14) for a lot of their dresses and blouses. Their knitwear is typically in XXS-XXL and the sizing really varies with each style. Some run large, some are true to size and some are more fitted (definitely check their sizing description on the product page). For their denim sizing (for the US website) is in sizes 2-14 and I find that the size 2 typically fits like a size 0 on other sites like Madewell.
Sézane Size Chart
I’ve included Sézane’s size chart below. You can refer to this when determining your size in shirts, dresses, bottoms, etc. They also provide sizing information in the product descriptions that are helpful (regarding whether or not to size up or down, etc).
Sézane US Shipping
In fact, Sézane offers free shipping to the US with all orders over $200. For orders under $200 standard delivery is $8. There is some grey area with regard to Sézane shipping and customs duties. I’ve never been charged customs duties on any Sézane orders. But I have heard of it happening once or twice to others. From what I’ve seen it happens with orders placed over $800 so if you have a large order you could split up. If you’ve placed a large order over $800 in the US would love to hear your experience in the comments!
Orders ship fairly quickly and I usually get shipment notification within 1-2 days of placing an order. Their packaging is really nice. And they use tissue paper instead of plastic along with 100% recycled cardboard for their shipping boxes.
Sézane International Shipping
Sézane ships internationally to a large number of countries. They also offer free shipping with different minimum order requirements. See here for more about their international shipping policies.
Sézane Return Policy
Sézane offers returns for free. All tags must be attached, and you have 15 days from the date you receive your order to return your item(s) for a refund or credit. You can either submit a return request online here or use the return shipping label provided with your order and drop it off at your nearest UPS drop-off location. Refunds are processed within 15 days of shipping your return.

don’t exceed $800! i mistakingly made a $1000 order and was slapped with about $250 worth of duties fees! it really burned because i returned quite a bit of my order anyway but was still forced to pay. hard lesson learned.
UGH!!! That’s awful. So sorry. Good to know about the $800. I’ve heard of that happening to others as well.
I had a similar experience! I purchased over $800 because I ordered multiple sizes not knowing about this and was charged $150 customs. It was very frustrating; I didn’t realize why that happened until reading this – I wish it was mentioned somewhere because I have been afraid to purchase items from them since because of it
If you don’t mind sharing, what size do you get for the Max and Tomboy shirts and do you have a preference for one over the other? Thanks a bunch 🙂
I was quite intrigued by the content of your blog when I came across it. Please provide me with sufficient information. Your blog’s content blew me away when I first saw it.
One thing is undeniable that the designs from France make me love a lot, it helps me to be more confident.
