#SELFIE

Whether you’re vehemently opposed or pro selfie it can’t be denied that taking photos of one-self and posting it on the internet is a new phenomenon that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon (though I really wish the song would). In a way, the selfie has been around for years. I remember in the age of the disposable camera a group of friends gathering closely and holding out that disposable as far as possible to capture the group in front of the lens. The only difference was that we weren’t posting that picture to Facebook (maybe because there was no Facebook).
According to the urban dictionary a selfie is: “A picture taken of yourself that is planned to be uploaded to Facebook, Myspace or any other sort of social networking website. You can usually see the person’s arm holding out the camera in which case you can clearly tell that this person does not have any friends to take pictures of them so they resort to Myspace to find internet friends and post pictures of themselves, taken by themselves.“
Clearly this definition is outdated because no one uses Myspace anymore. So I kept searching, and according to the Oxford Dictionary (yes “selfie” is in the Oxford Dictionary) the definition is: “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website: occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself everyday isn’t necessary.”
Noted, taking a picture of oneself everyday isn’t necessary. Luckily I have Craig to take my pictures every day! So what’s your take? How do you feel about the selfie?

A good “tasteful” selfie never gets old. — How great would it be to go back to the days of taking selfies with a disposable camera. Days were much simpler then, lol.
