Preppy Style Favorites For Fall

This post is in partnership with Sézane.
If I had to describe my personal style I’d say it’s a mix of classic, preppy, casual, and sporty. That’s a lot of things, but mostly I’m all about practical, comfortable, and quality pieces that I can wear a lot of ways. I’ve said it a lot already, but I can’t get enough of Sézane’s collection for fall. Some of it is a bit dressier and formal than what’s practical for my every day life, but there are plenty of pieces that have a more casual vibe too (or a mix of both, even better).
Most of my favorite pieces from their fall collection lean towards the preppy side with a polished, casual feel that’s chic but also comfortable. It’s all about a mix of casual and tailored pieces, classic colors, clean lines and patterns/textures (think tartan, corduroy, etc.).
Here’s a few of my favorite preppy styles from their fall collection, plus some tips on how to style them.
Preppy Style Favorites For Fall
Sweaters
Apart from sweater vests, crew-neck or V-neck sweaters are also preppy classics. Consider layering a button down underneath the sweater for a polished look. For colors I like classic neutrals and pastels like this Amiel Jumper in Ice Blue or Charcoal Grey. The Betty Cardigan is one of my favorites, the perfect combination of a sweater and jacket. The Louise jumper is a style they brought back from last year (see styled here) and I’m so happy they did. It’s so versatile, warm and chic with the button detail and slightly puffed sleeves.
Classic Outerwear
A well-fitted blazer is a staple and the Michele jacket in navy would definitely be my top pick (it also comes in grey now). The Will jacket is the perfect quilted utility style jacket, especially in the tartan for fall. You can’t go wrong with a peacoat in a classic color like the Johnson Coat in Camel (but stay tuned because I bet they’ll have some more great styles for winter).
This corduroy button down is more of a shirt but it’s thick enough to wear as a light jacket over a tee or tank.

Loafers and Boots
For a classic fall shoe with a preppy vibe you can’t go wrong with a low heeled suede bootie like the Jules boot. I love these booties because they’re so comfortable and I just can’t do anything with a heel higher than 2 inches anymore! The André loafers are a chic option too.
Bottoms
Sézane’s straight leg jean, the Brut sexy denim is 100% organic cotton rigid denim with an ankle length inseam. These get better with every wear! I went a size up which I’d recommend for a more comfortable fit. The Matthew trousers are a knit wide leg style that are so comfy and chic (I have last year’s version).
Bags and Accessories
I like to keep it simple with my accessories. For preppy style, a chic scarf on your bag, in your hair or around your neck, understated jewelry, and a classic leather bag, canvas or straw tote.

A Few Preppy Style Tips
Layering is Key
- Start with a crisp, button-down shirt or a lightweight sweater as your base layer.
- Add a sweater vest over your shirt or a jacket over a light sweater.
incorporate patterns and textures
- Embrace traditional preppy patterns like plaids, stripes, and checks.
- Incorporate textured fabrics like tweed, herringbone, or corduroy into your outfits for added depth.

Go With A Classic Color Palette
- Stick to a classic color palette with shades like navy, white, gray, and earthy or pastel tones.
- For fall, autumnal colors like deep red, mustard yellow, and hunter green are great options.
Ultimately you can make preppy style your own. I love the practicality and casual elements with a mix of tailoring and polished pieces. It’s all about making it work for your wardrobe and lifestyle. Comfort, ease and quality are key!
