Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 Picks

How To Wear A Tunic Sweater

By now you’ve probably heard about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It’s one that pretty much everyone talks about. I get a few things from the sale but I don’t treat it any differently than any other time I’m shopping, only buying something if I really love it and know I’ll wear again and again. This year I was extra mindful of my selections, taking care to pick things that are in line with my personal goal to keep these harmful fabrics out of my wardrobe and to leverage pieces that would work well in a capsule wardrobe (I’ll share a Fall capsule in September). At the very bottom of the post is a list of the pieces I purchased or already own) from the sale. Once I try them on and decide what to keep I’ll film an IGTV styling video.

Today at 12:30pm EST is the start of early access which requires a Nordstrom card to shop. I have a Nordstrom debit card which just means my bank account is connected to a Nordstrom card (it’s not a credit card). Public access to the sale starts July 19.

Last thing I want to say about the sale, it’s just a sale. There is so much hype around it, it’s almost anxiety inducing seeing all the posts about what to buy and how you have to shop right away. It’s just clothing and none of it is anything we need. Don’t overspend and don’t buy something for the sake of shopping the sale. All of the items below are just suggestions. If you find something you like great, but if you don’t that’s perfectly ok too.

Sweaters

  • A gorgeous neutral knit with rolled edges at the collar and sleeves. Perfect for early fall and to layer over a turtleneck or under a blazer as the weather cools down.
  • An unbeatable price for cashmere with this rust colored knit. I like to buy this style a bit oversized for a relaxed look.
  • Style this cashmere cardigan relaxed with a classic tee and a pair of boyfriend jeans or dress it up with a silk skirt and blazer or wool coat.

Denim

  • I’m a big fan of AG for their fit, quality and sustainable manufacturing. Most of the denim I own is AG and I love the light wash and subtle fading on this pair.
  • The AG High Waist Ankle Skinny jeans are pretty much my go-to denim. They look great with sneakers, booties, flats and this wash makes it easy to dress them up or down.
  • A nod to vintage Levi’s, this pair is fitted at the waist and straight through the leg. They’d be cute with a cashmere sweater and ankle boots or just a simple tee and sneakers.

Outerwear

  • Craig got this fleece jacket as a birthday present a few years ago and its still a favorite. Insanely warm and cozy its my go-to for dog walks and weekend adventures in the fall. It runs a little small so you might want to go up a size.
  • I bought this jacket last spring when we were in Portland and its the perfect lightweight but super warm puffy coat. Really great for travel and layers well. I have this in a small.
  • Part of my capsule wardrobe, the Barbour waxed cotton jacket is a timeless staple. Ive had mine for years and it has held up against lots of wear in all the elements.

Boots

  • Madewell makes great quality shoes and these ankle booties have a comfortable stacked heel and inside zipper so they’re easy to get on and off.
  • These pointy toe booties are similar to a pair I had in black for years from Sam Edelman but with a slightly lower and more wearable stacked heel.
  • I got these Hunter boots for our trip to Ireland a few years ago and they did not disappoint. They’re still the only rain boots I wear and the shorter height makes them comfortable and wearable.

Cashmere Wraps

  • A more casual take on a soft cashmere wrap with textured ribbing and fringe. Perfect for cozy layering and an ideal travel companion.
  • A lightweight cashmere scarf in the perfect neutral color makes this super wearable and versatile.
  • Two for one with this color blocked cashmere wrap in neutral earthy tones perfect for fall.

I find the sale’s coat offerings are always criminally underrated – I love so many of the plaids this year, plus the huge variety of Barbour options! I’m also very tempted by those Hunter boots!

Thank you for stressing to everyone to only shop if you truly love something or need something and that this is just a sale. We all over consume and I find social media really encourages this behavior. You’re always a step ahead with being mindful, not wasteful and supporting brands with ethical practices.
