My Favorite Rain Coats and Boots

Jess Ann Kirby wears a Barbour jacket with a cashmere beanie for fall in New England

I’ve been getting a lot of requests to share my favorite rain coats and boots so thought I would do that today (as it pours outside my window). I have three of the below coats, which may seem excessive, but when you live in New England and spend a lot of time outdoors, I assure you, it’s not. The coat I’ve had the longest is my Barbour Beadnell Waxed Jacket. I’ve had mine for so long it’s a little faded now but still my favorite. This is my classic go-to that I wear the most. If sizing is still the same as when I got mine, sizes 6 and under run small, so I got a size 6. It’s a little roomy which I like so I can layer for colder temps. When it’s raining cats and dogs (like this morning) and I’m walking the dogs I wear my L.L. Bean Rain Jacket. I have a small which is roomy but great for layering (it comes in a few different colors). A newer brand called AETHER sent me their Soho rain jacket a few months ago. It’s a higher price point but I have to say I was super impressed with the quality. I brought it with me to Aspen and we got stuck in a rainstorm on a hike. It kept me completely dry (and warm with only a light layer underneath). I have the navy but I also like the tan. It’s great for travel because it’s so lightweight and easy to pack. If you’re looking for something a little more dressed up you can’t go wrong with the London Fog trench coat. Scroll down for my boot recommendations.

For rain boots, I wear my L.L. Bean boots and my Hunter short rain boots the most. I don’t have the Sorel wedge bootie but I’ve had plenty of other boots from the brand and they make great stuff, I’ve heard good things about the wedge. If you just want something super simple and classic the Madewell Chelsea rain boots are cute and super affordable.

I really trust in the London Fog brand. I bought a LF winter coat a decade ago and wore it practically every day throughout Autumn/Winter (and I live in Canada, so our chillier months last forever). I finally parted with the coat earlier this year because a couple of the snap buttons had popped off – but other than that, the coat looked brand new. It really held up and I’m temped to buy another LF coat this year.

I love the Sorel wedge -the booties are super comfortable and they are fashionable too! Great round-up.
Recently bought the Cole Haan raincoat during the N-Sale as love as well.
Anyone who lives in New England definitely needs to invest in the duck boots 🙂

I just got my first pair of bean boots and I’m so excited to pull them out and go on an adventure! We just moved to D.C. and there are so many hiking and bike trails around, I know they are going to be perfect. xAllie
