How To Wear Wide Leg Jeans

This blog post is in partnership with Sézane.

Skinny jeans are out and wide leg jeans are in! I’m kidding, don’t yell at me. The youths are making fun of us for skinny jeans, and trust me I am definitely not giving mine up, but I do love how many denim options there are right now. When I saw this pair of wide leg jeans at Sézane I knew I had to try them. They’re kind of the perfect mix between straight leg jeans, flare leg jeans and wide leg jeans. I really like them for winter too because I can wear a thick long sock underneath to keep me warm.

Wide leg denim is more of a trouser style jean with a wider leg and mid to high rise. They tend to be full length or long, though there are some cute cropped styles too. What I love about this pair from Sézane is that it’s kind of the perfect mix of straight, flare and wide, and they look so chic styled a variety of ways. They are also made with 100% organic cotton! If you’re thinking about expanding your denim collection and looking to try a new style, read on for some tips on how to wear wide leg jeans this winter.

For Work (Business Casual)

If jeans are appropriate at your office, wide leg jeans are a great style to try for business casual. I’d stay away with anything that has distressing and stick with something in a darker wash. I love a classic blazer in navy with a simple white tee or button down. If the hem hits at the ankle go with a flat or low heeled pump. If the hem is longer go with a heeled bootie. So chic!

For The Weekend

Anything is fair game on the weekend right? I’m usually pretty casual on the weekend so I’d go with wide legged jeans, a cozy knit sweater, sweatshirt or striped breton and sneakers or a heeled clog (these wool lined clogs from Sézane are so cozy). Pair with a big tote and if it’s chilly add a wool jacket and a beanie.

For Date Night or A Special Occasion

If you don’t feel like wearing a dress but still want to get dressed up, wide leg jeans are such a good option. Pair with a romantic blouse or fitted top and add heels or booties. Accessorize with fun jewelry and a chic statement bag.

for the holidays

I think I have my Thanksgiving outfit sorted. We’re staying home and cooking so I’m planning on wearing a cozy sweater with wide legged jeans cuffed and cozy slippers. If you’re going to a dinner or a restaurant you could do something a little more dressed up and wear a heeled bootie and a chic long wool coat.

I am one of those weirdos that saved a couple pair of my beloved wide leg jeans from the early/mid 2000’s. I dug the out recently and am just SO happy they are back in rotation. I’ve never loved the skinny jeans, opting for a relaxed skinny or slim straight leg. I’ve also come to accept how much I hate a rise higher than maybe 11 inches, 10 is preferred. I’m short waisted and that midrise just feels better. It’s a good season!

Love that you saved them! I definitely did not, though they wouldn’t still fit but I am for sure very happy to swap out the skinny jeans right now.

Hi! Going to London for Christmas and wondering if the Mederick coat is warm enough? Is it more for fashion or warmth? Thanks!

It’s wool so definitely warm and you can for sure layer something under it too. I always wear a light patagonia puffy (like the nano puff) under my wool coats for super cold weather.
