A Fun Day Trip Near Woodstock, VT
If you’re up for a little adventure here are some recommendations for a fun way to explore when you’re ready to venture out of town.
If you are traveling to Woodstock you may be looking to explore to some of the other quaint and charming towns in Vermont. Lucky you, Vermont is a fairly small state and Woodstock is located centrally so you can easily explore many surrounding towns. One of our favorite southern Vermont towns is Manchester, Vermont. Manchester is known as the home to Hildene, former home to Abraham Lincoln’s son Robert, The American Museum of Fly Fishing, Southern Vermont Arts Center and Mount Equinox, not to mention a flourishing food and shopping scene.
Neighboring village to Manchester, Dorset, is a charming small country town with a darling bakery and general store. Manchester and Dorset would make an excellent day trip from Woodstock to see another beautiful part of Vermont.

Manchester and Dorset are an hour and 15 minute drive from Woodstock. The drive through the Green Mountains and Lake Region is absolutely stunning.

For lunch head to Dorset, a 10 minute drive from Manchester to the Dorset Bakery. The Dorset Bakery is a sweet little bakery perfect for both breakfast and lunch. They have a lovely little sitting area both indoors and outdoors and you can also take sandwiches to go if you have a fun-filled day ahead.

End your day by dining al fresco at The Crooked Ram‘s seasonal outdoor restaurant, The Yard. The Crooked Ram is a delicious new restaurant in Manchester with both indoor and outdoor seating. The Equinox Preserve Pond and Trail
Next take a leisurely stroll, hike or mountain bike ride at The Equinox Preserve Pond and Trail. The Equinox Preserve and Pond Trail includes 11 miles of maintained trails ranging in difficulty along the slopes of Mt. Equinox. In addition, the trails are pet friendly (on leash). Choose your adventure whether that is an easy pond loop or a more challenging summit climb. Recommended hikes and views include Equinox Pond, Robin’s Lookout and Lookout Rock and Lye Brook Falls.

Stratton Snow Making Pond
Enjoy your afternoon at the Stratton Snow Making Pond, Manchester’s favorite local leisurely summertime swim spot. Stratton Snow Making pond located just 15 minutes outside of Manchester. Set amongst the Green mountains, the Stratton Snow Making Pond, is utilized as Stratton Mountain’s snowmaking resource in the winter but transforms into swim and paddle heaven come summer.

The Dorset Marble Quarry
On your way back to Manchester stop at The Dorset Marble Quarry. The Dorset Marble Quarry is the first marble quarry in the United States. This beautiful swimming hole is surrounded by large marble, and crystal clear, refreshingly cold water. This local swimming spot has both marble and grassy areas for lounging and cliff jumping for thrill seekers!
