It was pretty fun to decorate our home this year for the holidays. We’ve never really done it before since we’ve always been in apartments and just weren’t that excited about decorating. I didn’t want to spend a ton on decorating because honestly I feel like we are hemorrhaging money as new homeowners. So we stuck to the basics with a tree, stockings (which we will store for next year), lots of greenery and lights. We ended up getting a big tree which didn’t leave much room for a topper with our low ceilings so we used a big red bow instead and I love it (see the last photo). It doesn’t take much to make it feel festive and cozy and I love that it’s simple and easy to do (and easy to clean up after the holidays). So, here are some of my tips for decorating this holiday season, key word = cozy.
An easy way to get your greens this holiday season. We went all out with wreaths, garland and greenery for the tablescape. It’s nice to mix it up with different varieties. The garland over the fireplace is a mix of cedar and pine, we used boxwood garland around the window behind the dining table and the greenery on the table is arborvitae. Kim from Greenlion also made us a beautiful wreath for our window from a variety of greenery with some eucalyptus and berries. Pottery Barn has some beautiful garland and I love this wreath from West Elm. You can of course also shop local, we went to our local farmer’s market for the garland. I found the mini trees below at the grocery store. They were in ugly tins, so I wrapped them in brown kraft paper and tied velvet bows from ribbon I bought on ebay. Such an easy DIY!
Lighting
I am VERY partial to white lights for holiday. I just love the warm and cozy feel they add. We did a mixture of regular tree lights for the window garland and tree, and used led lights on the bar cart, shelving, wreaths, and mantle garland. On the table we did a combination of tea lights (I put little candles in glassware from my grandmother) and then used tapered candles in some brass candlesticks I inherited from my parents.
Cozy Textures
Soft throw blankets, sheepskin rugs and knit stockings in neutral colors make the house feel SO cozy. As most of you know this faux fur throw from Anthro is a favorite and this one from Nordstrom is also super soft. I have throw blankets everywhere, in baskets, on the couch, on the bench at the dining table. I put sheepskin rugs on our dining chairs to make them more comfortable in a variety of neutral shades from creamto tan and a darker brown. I also have a sheepskin in front of the fireplace that the dogs and cat loooove. I’ll be doing a full living room and dining room reveal soon, but I get lots of questions about our velvet sectional. It’s the hugo sectional from Rove Concepts in solstice vintage velvet and it is the couch of my dreams. It’s comfortable, the fabric is beautiful and it’s easy to keep clean (even with 3 pets). More on that coming soon. If you’re looking for more holiday inspo, check out our holiday tablescape here, and holiday style inspiration here.

It has been two years since we finished converting our garage into a bedroom and bathroom. I remember when we bought the house and one of the first things Craig said was that we should turn the garage into living…
I first discovered the French brand Sézane a few years ago through the recommendation of a friend. She said the French brand “was totally my style” and I had to try it out. I immediately fell in love with the brand. I often get asked about sizing when shopping for Sézane and since it’s important to know when shopping for clothes at Sézane I’m sharing more about that today. Whether you’re a long time Sézane fan or a new shopper, today’s post is your ultimate guide to making your Sézane shopping experience easy and fun.
Yes we love Trader Joe’s for the dips, the snacks, delicious frozen meals, and the desserts, but can we all take a moment for the non-food items at Trader Joe’s. You’ve probably heard of a few, like the sunscreen that…
