Earlier this week Craig and I went and picked out our tree and now we just have to keep it alive until Christmas. I always sort of struggle with the Christmas tree thing, I hate the idea of growing them just to cut them down, supposedly the one we got was “sustainably harvested” whatever that means, and apparently it’s more eco-friendly than having a fake one. We are planting a tree in our yard to make up for it. Growing up, as we got older, my Dad hated the wastefulness of cutting down trees for Christmas, so he started doing a tree of lights, a plant in a basket, with lights stringing from the basket to the ceiling in the shape of a tree. I vaguely remember, it was because of this cartoon from my Mom’s New Yorker, which I discovered after looking it up this morning, was from 1999, I was 15. Next week I turn 34. I probably never thought about my 34-year-old self at the age of 15, I almost definitely did not. One thing is for sure though, my Catholic/Jewish guilt will most likely plague me for the rest of my life, and I’ll never stop feeling bad about cutting down a Christmas tree, maybe next year we’ll do a tree of lights. Happy weekend friends.

If you’re looking for something to buy, try, read, share or pin, we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of the week…

I got this champagne rosé luminizer from RMS Beauty last week and I can’t stop wearing it. It’s sheer, dewy and glowy (and all natural). (J)

Packing your lunch not only saves you money, it’s more sustainable. It’s nice to get some new ideas if you’re stuck in a salad or sandwich rut.

This blog post is more than just a pretty apple pie, great commentary from Michele on this one.

There were so many requests for another day of the Missoma sale, they decided to give 25% off again (just for today!). Use code JESSA25 for 25% off site wide. Here’s a recap of all my favorites.

If you’re still looking for gift ideas you can see all the holiday gift guides here.

You guys, this litte contraption looks weird but I wonder if it works? (C)

Are you guys planning on reading Michelle Obama’s new book Becoming?

If your friends have kids, this gift guide based on age is totally helpful. While babies are easy to buy for, once kids get a little older it’s easy to get confused on what’s safe and age appropriate.

Feeling a little over indulged? I’ve been loving The Defined Dish’s weeknight dinner ideas. They’re tasty, healthy, and easy—quite the trifecta. (C)

I mean who doesn’t love Emily Blunt and Mary Poppins? Both nervous and excited about the new movie.

Get ready to have your mind blown by this piece on how to give a good gift. This list will give you some great ideas and reign in your more risky ideas.

Loved this list of advice from Jerry Saltz on how to be an artist—honestly, it’s a lot of life advice too. (C)

Just in case you need a laugh today.

Kristina Filler was personally affected by gun violence when her Dad, a beloved history teacher was shot and killed outside the school where he taught, in front of his students. Kristina became an outspoken advocate for gun reform, and created this incredible gun sense holiday gift guide showcasing companies that publicly support gun safety. I also ordered the sweatshirt she created, all proceeds go to Everytown.

This table inspo was from Thanksgiving, but we think it would look lovely for the holidays too. Those neutral candlesticks are everything.

The vintage wall shelf in my bathroom is finally back in stock. (J)

OMG I struggle with the whole tree thing too! Love a fresh tree but it breaks my heart that it’s literally dying in front of us! I try to console myself with the fact that at least land is devoted to growing them and not getting clear cut for a road or stupid shopping centre. But maybe I’m deluding myself ☹️
On another note… can’t wait to try the luminizer!
