BEHIND THE SCENES: BRAHMIN FACTORY TOUR

 IMG_1232
I’m honestly still pinching myself from the incredible experience I had last week at the Brahmin Factory in Fairhaven. My relationship with the brand goes back over a year (but it honestly feels like a lifetime) when they reached out to me while I was still living in NYC. Brahmin was one of the very first brands I worked with as a blogger and one that I’ve consistently worked with over the past year and a half. Of course I love their bags, their designs, and their incredible quality, but it’s also the people that make Brahmin such a special brand. So enough gushing already, on with the tour! After a fabulous breakfast with the Brahmin team, Sydne and Grace, we started the morning in the design room, where we heard firsthand from the designers about the inspiration for their fall collection. The 2014 Fall Collection, which let me just tell you is SO swoon worthy, was inspired by the bohemian traveler, a woman who explores the world, collecting luxurious pieces along the way. From the rich blues and orange-reds to the bluish grays, blush pinks and wine hues the collection is a curation of stunning palettes and textures (I have the leather swatches on my desk as inspiration).

After seeing where the inspiration for the Fall collection came from, we saw the next step in bringing a bag to life. By creating the shape of the bags on a computer with the exact specifications of how they will be as a finished product, the bags are printed and made into “paper” bags. It’s basically paper dolls for grown-ups. Moving into the factory we watched as the bags were actually made right in front of us. I was blown away by the efficiency and organization of the factory. We were lucky enough to get to make our own leather bracelets, which I’m pretty sure was a crowd favorite (particularly for Grace the DIY Queen).

After showing us their quality control processes, for example how they put their hardware in a salt water steam coffin for 48 hours to test durability, we finished the day with a preview of the Fall Collection and some extra special Brahmin cookies. We heard from Brahmin founder Bill Martin who shared the journey he and his wife Joan have been on since the very beginning in 1982. Brahmin has come a long way since their humble beginnings over 30 years ago. It was such an honor to be included alongside Grace and Sydne for such an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Brahmin Factory. It gave me such a greater appreciation for the brand and got me really excited for some fabulous handbags come Fall! Fashion week here I come. Thank you so much to the entire Brahmin team for such an amazing and memorable day!

  8. […] My love for Brahmin is no secret. I’ve talked before about how special the brand is to me, and the fact that they were one of  the very first brands I ever worked with when I started Prosecco & Plaid almost 3 years ago. So I couldn’t be more excited to share their new Southcoast collection. When I first heard about the collection last summer I was thrilled, it felt like a match made in heaven. An effortlessly cool collection, with soft leathers, minimalist designs and hardware, and all of the attention to detail and superior craftsmanship that make Brahmin bags so special. […]
