If you’re scheming for a get together, here are some fun ways to celebrate the holidays with your girlfriends.
12 Ways To Celebrate The Holidays With Your Girlfriends
Host a Holiday Party
Host a fun and festive holiday party at your house or a local venue. Hosting a holiday party is such a fun way to gather your favorite people into one space and get into the holiday spirit together. I get really into decorating for Christmas and always love having guests over to share that Christmas cheer. Hosting a party is a great way to show off your fun holiday decor. Maybe choose a theme like a gift exchange, Christmas Murder Mystery, ugly sweater party or keep it simple with a classic holiday party. Make a fun, festive cocktail and holiday charcuterie board.
You don’t have to go overboard either. We had a girls night at a friends house last week that was SO low key but really fun. Make a fire in the backyard and have drinks by the fire under a blanket. There’s something so magical about hanging outdoors in the cold by the fire.
Have a Girlfriend Spa Day
Seriously, is there ever a time of year that going to the spa isn’t a good idea? Going to the spa is such a nice way to relax and unwind during the busiest time of year. Treat yourself to a facial, massage, or manicure and pedicure with your best girlfriends. Oftentimes, spas have special festive treatments during the holidays to choose from. Make it a full day of self care and utilize the amenities– enjoy the steam room, sauna and whirlpool. Don’t sell yourself short, you deserve it!
Go For A Night Hike or Walk
This week we are going for a night hike up our local mountain– Mt. Tom for Jess’s birthday and a few other December birthdays. It is going to be so beautiful hiking under the full moon and stars with headlamps, lots of layers and an amazing group of strong women. Going for a walk or night hike during the holiday season is such a beautiful way to see Christmas decor, twinkling lights and holiday cheer. One of the best things about Mt. Tom is that the star at the top is lit up this time of year. It will be so fun to see it glow from the top and look down on the beautiful little village of Woodstock twinkling below.
Go Holiday Shopping
Holiday shopping is meant to be fun and festive, but can end up being stressful when it feels like there is too much to do and not enough time. Plan a holiday shopping day trip with friends early in the season so you can have fun and enjoy it. Or plan it later in the season when your shopping is all done so you can enjoy perusing without the stress!
Go Out To Dinner or Lunch
Going out to eat with friends is such a nice way to connect and catch up. It is even more fun during the holidays when restaurants are decked out in holiday cheer and there are fun special drinks, entrees and deserts to enjoy. Pick a restaurant that will feel cheerful and fun for your night out with the girls and put on your most fun festive outfit for the occasion.
Sometimes finding babysitters for a night out with girlfriends can be challenging. Or maybe you just struggle to stay awake past 8pm like me. Try for a lunch if you can swing it. Pick a festive restaurant that will make you feel that holiday cheer. Get dressed up and make it feel special.
Organize a Floral or Wreath Making Class
Jess organized a floral arranging class a few weeks at the village bar with our local florist and a bunch of girlfriends and it was so much fun. Not only did we learn so much from Tedd about flowers and creating arrangements, but the night flew by sipping drinks and chatting while we created beautiful centerpiece arrangements. It was a blast!
Take a Girls Weekend Away
Not everyone can swing this one, especially with children, BUT if you can, do it now! There is nothing better than a girls weekend away to have hours on hours of time to talk, vent, laugh, cry, release and reset before returning to your busy life. Go To A Festive Event
There are so many fun, festive events throughout the month of December no matter where you live! Plan to attend a holiday parade, tree lighting, holiday crafts fair or other fun event with your girlfriends. It will make it feel that much more special and fun to have your ladies there to experience it with. See what’s on this month in your area and invite your girlfriends to join you!
Go To A Concert Or Play
The holiday season is a great time to attend a concert or play. You could see a classic holiday play or musical like A Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street, How The Grinch Stole Christmas or It’s a Wonderful Life. Oftentimes, town halls and local theaters will have special holiday performances. Check your local listings and buy tickets with friends for a fun night or afternoon out!
Go Ice Skating, Skiing or Snowshoeing
If you and your girlfriends love an outdoor adventure, plan an outing either ice skating, skiing or snow-shoeing. This is such a great way to get some exercise and bond with friends over a common interest or hobby. It’s also a wonderful way to enjoy the fresh snow and winter-wonderland vibes wherever you live.
Bake Christmas Cookies or Gingerbread Houses
If you love to bake, what’s better than doing the thing you love with your friends? Prep some dough and toppings and have some girlfriends over. Decorate cookies or make gingerbread houses. Enter them in a local competition or just enjoy them displayed in your home. You could even make a competition amongst your friends for most original and funniest cookie or gingerbread house.
Have a Cheesy Holiday Movie Night
Watching cheesy holiday movies is one of the best parts of the season. Invite some friends over and watch together drinking fun holiday beverages, snacks, cookies and laughing over the classic, predictable holiday flick.
